Building a Custom App and Integrating Analysis with Power BI

Our initial findings after requirement gathering were that this NZ-based family business relied on a clunky and unsupported application built on spreadsheets to manage their stock and sales data. They required a path off of this application to better manage their data and to generate actionable insights.

They required a tool to forecast new stock purchases, conduct fast and easy stock lookups as well as provide an indication of stock price to quote in-bound queries.

As their stock had weeks of lead time due to shipping complexities they needed to forecast accurately and not hold onto stock for too long.

Commencing the project our first milestone was to perform an end-end discovery of the Business process, understand the product and its pain points and document the future requirements. This was important for us to accurately communicate the effort required to achieve their desired outcome.

Solution

We designed and developed end-to-end an aplication built in React which was hosted in Azure App Service with a direct link to the Power BI tenant. Both this application and Power BI would use the backend database to serve as a single point of truth. They could then maintain there datat through the front end of the application.

Outcomes

• Developed an Power BI Dashboard which generated insights around stock levels and sale performance

• Automated data flows to remove any manual data efforts

• Designed and developed a front end application fit for the customer's business

• Provided on-going development, support, and maintenance
